Meeting for Parents of Reception children starting in Sept 2025

Dear Parent/Carer

In preparation for your child starting school, I would like to invite you to a Welcome Meeting for Parents on Tuesday 10th June from 9.30-10.30am in the school hall. Sadly we are unable to offer a crèche, therefore please arrange child care. We will be doing a tour around the Reception area after the meeting.

The aim of the meeting is to:

  • introduce you to East Wittering School. (You will find out on one of our Stay and Play session which class your child will be in).
  • familiarise you with the learning and daily procedures that take place in the Early Years.
  • help you to prepare your child for school.
  • answer any questions you may have.

At the welcome meeting, there will be a display of school uniform, items will be available to order online and there will be an opportunity to meet the School Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO). Chartwells our hot food caterer will also be there with a selection of meals to try.

The school also offers three separate ‘Stay and Play’ sessions where the children will meet their class teacher and explore their new classroom and outdoor area. These will take place on

Wednesday 18th June 1.30-2-30pm Parents and carers to remain with their children

Wednesday 25th June 1.30-2.30pm Parents and Carers to remain with their children

Wednesday   2nd July  1.30-2.30pm (on this last session we will ask adults to leave to allow the children to explore on their own) – tea and coffee will be available in the school hall

Our Reception team will be doing home visits from Thursday 4th September to Wednesday 10th September. We will arrange dates and times with you during the Stay and Play sessions in June. These are a great opportunity to get to know your child in a familiar setting.

We appreciate that full time start may not be appropriate for all children. If you have any concerns, please speak to a member of staff at the welcome meeting so we can ensure a positive start to your child’s time at East Wittering.

I would be grateful if you would confirm acceptance/refusal of the place offered by completing and returning the West Sussex County Council ‘School Place Acceptance’ form and provide a copy of your Council Tax bill and return them both by Tuesday 13th May 2024 so that we may finalise the arrangements for September.

I would be most grateful if you could confirm whether you are able to attend the meeting on Tuesday 10th June by completing and returning the slip below. We also would like to know the name of your child’s current nursery provision, so we can arrange a visit as part of your child’s transition.

We are very much looking forward to meeting you and welcoming you and your child to our school.
